GSL's Update

Awards, Awards and more Awards
With the Gang Show over, our Leaders have now turned their attention back to the award schemes in their sections and in the past month we have seen a number of top awards being presented by Nigel Valette, the District Commissioner for Havant..

The photo below shows Matthew Pickles, James Hoyle, Daniel Law and Matthew Roberts all of Redwood Colony proudly holding their Chief Scout's Bronze Awards.

A few days later, Nigel was back again to present Nathan Bond, George Whipp, Euan Condron and Matthew Wells from Saturn Pack with their Chief Scout's Silver Awards.

It was then the turn of Jack West, Aaron Francis-Robertson and Kaj Carter of Jupiter Pack.

And finally he was back again to present the Chief Scout's Gold Award to Barnabas Pycroft of Eagle Scout Troop.

At each presentation, Nigel congratulated the boys on their excellent achievements and thanked the Parents and Leaders for their support and help.

5 Year Award for Aaron
Aaron Pycroft, the Leader of Jupiter Cubs was presented with a certificate marking 5 years of adult service to Scouting. Well done Aaron and thanks for all you will continue to do!

Trip to Civic Offices
16 members of the Group attended a special reception in the Civic Offices with their families and Leaders. The 16 were all presented with a certificate by the Mayor in recognition of achieving the top awards in their section over the past 6 months.

Saturn Pack win Football
The Cubs of Saturn Pack recently won the Havant District Cub Football competition. After some tough games they met the team from Jupiter Pack in the final and beat last year's winners 2-1 in a very close game.

Saturn Pack then took part in the County finals, and although they did not win they did themselves proud.

Indian Supper a Success
Our Indian Supper evening was another huge success with over 50 people taking part in a quiz organised by Clive Allgood before enjoying an Indian meal prepared by the Desai family. Everyone commented on the quality of the food on offer. Thanks to Explorers Kathryn, Joe and Zack for their hard work and to Ciara Jamieson Goode for organising the event.

Explorers support Lions Club
Zack Allgood and Alastair Harris were recently invited to carry flags at an International Lions Club Convention held on Hayling. Marilyn Skennerton President of the local Lions Clubs invited them to take part in this special meeting.

Harold Shenton
It was with much sadness that we heard of the passing of Harold Shenton recently. Harold had been a long time supporter of the Group and in the 70s and 80s would often be found in the HQ teaching First Aid. Our thoughts and Prayers are with his son Kevin and their family.

Hayling Scout Group
Dominic Howell spotted on the Hampshire Web Site that the 3rd Hayling Group is the largest in Hampshire.

Camping Season Starts
It must be Spring! 12 Explorers and Scouts supported by 5 Leaders recently took part in their annual "Rhodi Camp" when they help the Warden at Broadstone Warren camp site by clearing Rhododendron. The camp included a number of other activities including an Easter Egg Hunt. Well done Jamie and Claire for organising this event.

Just a reminder that our next Book Sale will take place on Saturday 31st May at the URC Hall in Mengham Doors open at 10:00.
