Moving on

Moving on is the name we give to the transfer between sections. The objective of the moving on process is to make the transition between one section and the next smooth and successful.

How Does it work?

A few weeks before your child is due to transfer to the next section, the current leader will ask you and the Beaver or Cub which section (night) is prefered. (Note: For Scouts there is only one choice as we only have the one Explorer unit).

Your current leader will arrange for details of your son or daughter to be passed onto the appropriate Leader for the new section who will then contact you.

We normally operate a link for between 2 and 4 weeks, which means that your son or daughter will start attending the new section, to get to know the other members plus the Leaders whilst still going along to their current section. Our experience proves that this is the most effective way of operating the transfer. In the same way as when the young person first joined, we ask that they give their new section at least 2 weeks before making their decision in order that they can experience a broader range of what we have on offer.

At the end of the link period the Beaver / Cub / Scout will be presented with their "Moving on Award" and a short transfer ceremony (normally called the "Going Up Ceremony") will take place.
