Medal of Merit for Jim

Report Date 28/05/10

Adam Jollans, the County Commissioner for Scouting in Hampshire joined us for our annual meeting. In addition to finding our more about the largest group in the County of Hampshire he also had a very special presentation to make.

The Medal of Merit is an award given to uniformed Leaders who have made an outstanding contribution to the lives of young people over many years.

Jim Simpson started his Scouting life in Fyfe, Scotland and still proudly wears his kilt at formal events such as our annual meeting and so he was pleasantly surprised when Adam asked all Leaders NOT wearing a kilt to sit down and then presented the medal to Jim.

Jim has been a Leader for over 20 years, in Fyfe, Slough and for the past 9 years on Hayling Island. During this time as Leader of Lion Troop Jim has not only developed the troop into a strong and active unit, but has also taken a lead role in many of the group events including being responsible for the programme team who organised the events at our Birthday camp.

Congratulations Jim on this deserved recognition of your contribution to Scouting.
