100 Years of age celebrated in style!

Report Date 09/08/07

Wednesday 1st August was the 100th Birthday of Scouting and the Hayling Group joined in with various celebrations.

The day started across the World with every member of Scouting remaking their Promise at 08:00 local time. During the 24 hour period, over 26 Million members in over 200 Countries and territories took part. YES 26 MILLION!

Over 70 Hayling Scouts and Explorers took part in the 08:00 celebration with over 4000 others who were joining in with the h007 Jamboree in the New Forest.

Julie Rigden (Young Leader) and Alan Oakes (Explorer) had been lucky enough to be invited to Brownsea Island, the birth place of Scouting, whilst Jorden Reed and Alistair Harris were part of the World Scout Jamboree with 40,000 others from across the world.

Our Beavers and Cubs started their long day at 06:45 when they met their Coach on Hayling. A short trip to Emsworth meant that our 75 Beavers and Cubs were ready to join with others from Havant area for the 08:00 ceremony which concluded wth the release of 100 Doves.

They then reboarded the Coaches and were taken to the New Forest, to join with the Scouts and Explorers for a day of fun at the h007 Jamboree. (See the h007 report for more information on the activities).

After dinner and a camp fire they returned home by 21:00, tired by full of enthusiasm about their fantastic day.

The photograph shows 100 Doves being released as a symbol of peace.
