Maple Beavers Start

Report Date 26/01/12

The 25th January arrived and by 6:00pm there were 10 excited 6 year olds, 4 nervous but excited adults and a number of interested parentsin our HQ.

This was the first meeting of our new Beaver Colony, who will be known as Maple Beavers.

Whilst Helen, the Beaver Leader spent the first 15 minutes talking to the Parents, the Beavers played some games, led by Charlotte, Tony and David. (Alas Mick, our 5th adult volunteer was unable to be at this first meeting).

WHen the parents had been allowed to depart, the Beavers then made their own name tags, completed some activities to get to know each other and the Leaders and finished with some more games.

The following week - yes, everyone turned up again!

Whilst Maple Beavers will run with just 10 Beavers whilst the Leaders find their own feet, over time we will be able to make a significant reduction in our waiting list and provide more places for those young people of Hayling Island who would like to try Scouting.

Of course none of this would be possible without Helen, Charlotte, Tony, David and Mick who give ftreely of their time to help further the aims of Scouting which is:-

"To contribute to the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potentials, as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of their local, national and international communities".
