Nexus Awards

It proved to be an evening badges and awards for our Nexus Explorer unit. Leaders Dominic Howell and Tony Baker presented a number of badges in recognition of nights camping, hiking, swimming and hobbies. In total over 40 badges were presented including bagdes to represent 150 Nights in camp as a member of Scouting.

Rosemary Harrison and Matthew Kenny were then presented with their Young Leader belts. The Young Leader training schemeis available to anyone aged between 14 and 18 who helps another Scouting section on a regular basis. To gain the award, individuals need to help regularly with one of the sections, complete 11 training modules covering topics like First Aid, Safeguarding Children, Programme planning, using games in training, and completing 4 missions which involve taking responsibilit for the planning and execution of elements of the programme indoors and outdoors. To gain their awards, Rosemary has been a regular helper with Aspen Beavers and Matthew with Redwood Beavers.

Michael Kenny and Matthew Kenny were then presented with their Chief Scout's Platinum Awards and their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Awards, followed by Abi Peett and Liam Holden who received their Chief Scout's Diamond Awards and Duke of Edinburgh Silver Awards.

The Young Leader belts and Chief Scout's Awards were presented by Ian Hawke on behalf of Ian Stott the District Commissioner for Havant. The Duke of Edinburgh Awards were presented by Terry Brinnen a regular skills instructor with the Explorers and who is a qualified Duke of Edinburgh scheme trainer and assessor.
