Scouts learn Survival Skills

Report Date 24/09/07

7 Scouts from Lion troop joined others from across Hampshire for a weekend learing to live off the land and without the normal camp facilities.

The Scouts had to build and sleep in shelters made from bracken and other natural materials found around the campsite, had to learn to cook without any utensils with only knives to help with preparation, studied and sampled food provided by nature and learnt the art of water purification.

The camp was a great success and has enabled the Scouts to complete the requirements of the "Backwoods" badge.

The photograph shows Jake with a rabbit he had to prepare for a meal. (They did not have to catch their own rabbits!).
