GSL's Update

New Beaver Colony Opens
To help us provide more opportunity for the 6 to 8 year olds who would like to take part in the fun and adventure of Scouting, it was great to see the opening of "Maple" Beaver colony. Thank you to Helen, Charlotte, Dave, Tony and Mick for volunteering and making this possible.

Subscriptions
Every family should have received details of our Subscription increase from April 2012. The pack included a letter explaining the increase, a leaflet showing what happens to the subs you pay, the details for Standing Orders, our preferred payment method and details of Gift Aid for those of you who had not previously made a declaration. If by any chance the information did not make it home then please let me know. If you are not signed up for Standing Order please will you assist your Leaders by paying your £30 in the first 2 weeks of term in a named envelope - Thank You.

100 Club
The final winners of this our last 100 Club were Pete Goddard and Ina Smith who both win £25, Maureen Smith who wins £50 and Alison King who wins the annual prize of £100. Thank you to everyone who supported our 100 club over the past 6 years and to Lorna for running the event.

Over 130 Nights Away during this term
"Nights Away" is the name we give to any activity we hold involving sleeping away from home, whether this be in tents or indoors. This dark and often the coldest term still provides a great opportunity to brush up on camping skills in readiness for the main camping season (Scouts), to tackle some of the more unusual badges such as Chef, Astronomer, Mechanic, Scientist and Master at Arms (Cubs and Scouts) or just to join in a range of activities and experience, what for many is their first time, a night away from home (Beavers).

Stage One of Our Transport Project Completes
A year ago we launched our transport project to raise funds to purchase additional trailers and potentially a van to help our increased number of sections transport equipment for activities and camps. Well, with the support of many Hayling Islanders we have been able to complete the first stage of this project with the purchase of an additional trailer - ready for the busy period that will begin after Easter.

Could you give us 6 hours of your time in 2012?
We ask our Leaders to look after our members
We need our Group Development team to provide our facilities and equipment
AND, we have a service crew who give a few hours a year in a number of different ways. This could be helping with an activity, being part of a work team who keep our grounds tidy, help with transport, or anything else identified that will allow the Leaders to focus on their main role!

The commitment can be as little or as much as you can offer.

If you think may be able to help and would like to find out more either visit our website, and look in the "Adults in Scouting" section, or contact Ian Hawke.
