Helping Scouting on Hayling
Our Group Development Team - Parent Representative
The Leaders are responsible for the provision of Scouting for the youth membership of the Group. The Group Development Team (otherwise known as the Executive Committee) is responsible for the management of the Scout Group and ensuring the Leades have the equipment and facilities they require.
What is the Job?
The Group Development Team (GDT) is made up of the trustees of the Group (Group Scout Leader, Chairman and Treasurer), individuals with specific responsibilities (e.g. Secretary, Quartermaster) and up to 9 Parent Representatives, ideally with a mix of Parents covering Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers.
The prime responsibility of the GDT is to provide the Leaders with the appropriate and well maintained equipment and facilities in order that they can provide exciting programmes for our youth membership. The GDT is a management committee and not a fund raising committee.

Parent Representatives can be considered in a similar capacity to School Governors and are an integral part of the GDT and hence the Group. They will review requests from the Leaders (or from the GDT themselves), make decisions to commit funds and resources to deliver against these requests and ensure that the profile of Scouting remains strong both internally and externally to the Group.
What is the Commitment?
The GDT meets formally 6 times a year with each meeting lasting apprximately 2 hours. During these meetings they review current actions, consider new requests and will often look at ways to develop Scouting on Hayling Island. Normally each member of the GDT will take on a specific responsibility for example managing the maintenance and bookings for our Trailer, HQ maintenance, the Leader's wish list, badge sponsorship and similar. These typically represent an additional 12 hours a year.
What Skills / Experience do I need?
No experience necessary. Enthusiasm and an interest in helping young people achieve are all that is required.
